Topic: C.E7 Understanding and Counteracting Ableism in the Preschool Classroom
Synopsis: Most of the world we exist is designed without considering persons with disabilities. When we design classroom spaces or create lesson activities, do we only design them with typical children in mind? Do we offer equal access and opportunities to children who are differently abled?
Through this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of what ableism means and how preschool teachers' understanding on disability (or lack thereof) allows ableism to show up in our classrooms. Most importantly, participants will learn practical strategies to counteract ableism in the preschool classroom.
