Topic: A.E8 Building Strong Foundations: Supporting the development of self-regulation skills in the classroom
Synopsis: What roles do executive functioning and self-regulation play in a child's development? Why do these skills matter? How can preschool educators promote the development of these skills for children with different needs in our classrooms?
Executive functioning (EF) and self-regulation (SR) skills are key factors promoting children’s concurrent and later math and literacy development. These skills also contribute to the development of children’s socio-emotional skills.
Given the increased emphasis on EF and SR skills in the NEL Framework 2022, the objective of this workshop is to provide participants with an overview of these skills and practical strategies for incorporating these skills in their lessons and classroom activities.
Through this workshop, participants can expect to
(1) Develop a deeper understanding of EF and SR skills, and how these skills contribute to learning and development in early childhood
(2) Learn about effective strategies for promoting ER and SR skills in early childhood
(3) Develop a repertoire of ideas to promote EF and SR skills development in children with different needs
