Topic: A.E10 Is there a "type" to be a Special Ed Teacher?
Synopsis: Teachers are the cornerstone of children’s development. A solid teacher offers inspiration and encouragement so that students achieve success inside and outside the classroom. For children with special needs, teachers must possess characteristics that help them deal with physical and cognitive disorders, which might be a feat that is more challenging than teaching just typical children.
However, does that necessarily mean only a special "type" of teachers can teach students with special needs?
Through this workshop, Dr. Pamela Lim hopes to demystify the notion that only special, selected few teachers possess the innate ability to care for and educate children with added needs. Further, she hopes to highlight the qualities that can be developed in the "average" teacher to enable them to nurture both typical and atypical children to create more inclusive classroom environments.
