Topic: A.E9 Being a Heart-Centred Educator
Synopsis:
Many early childhood educators enter the field with a passionate for young children and wanting to make a positive impact in their lives but over time and for various reasons, some may have lost the drive and vision about why they are doing what they do.
19th century Swiss pedagogue and education reformer, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi’s famous motto was “learning by head, hand and heart”. In essence, teaching should be an integration of the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of learning. How much focus do we give to the affective domains of learning and to the heart of teaching? At the centre of a heart-centred educator is hope, love, passion and compassion.
This workshop will explore the 7 virtues of heart-centred teaching and present the elements of a heart-centred environmental design as possibilities for cultivating a positive climate for learning and hopefully rekindle the heart once again.
